5 Garlic Cures For Severe Toothache Pain, Inflammation and Abscess Pain Relief

The Healing Powers of Garlic – Apart from warding off vampires, garlic has proven itself over the millennia as an extremely effective antiseptic, it is found to have strong antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Garlic has been used for medicinal purposes by the ancient Chinese dating back to 2000 B.C.E., .and by the ancient Egyptians, the Romans and the Greeks, which is why garlic is still so important in these cultures today.

What makes this herb so special is the compound known as Allicin, this is the juice which is created from the Allin content when garlic is cut or crushed. It is Allicin which is responsible for garlic’s strong healing properties, making it a powerful antibacterial agent and a natural anesthetic, giving pain relief to the affected area it is applied to.

Garlic acts like an antibiotic, and with repeated application (of raw cut garlic) to the infected area it can cure an abscessed tooth. But a word of caution, by all means use the garlic remedies below to bring quick relief to a severe toothache resulting from an abscess infection, but always consult your dentist, an abscess left untreated or not properly treated can lead to complications.

5 Garlic remedies for quick toothache pain relief

Just be aware that you may experience a mild to moderate burning/stinging sensation when using raw garlic.

1: Garlic and Salt
Combine one clove of garlic with a sprinkling of salt and crush into a fine paste. Apply the mixture sparingly directly onto the affected tooth, applying too much can leave a strong burning sensation. Leave for several minutes before rinsing with warm salt water.

Rinsing with warm salty water not only helps to draw out the infection and kill bacteria, it also removes any lingering burning/stinging sensation from using the garlic paste.

2: Garlic and Peanut Butter
Mix one teaspoon of crushed garlic with an equal amount of peanut butter, apply the paste liberally around the affected tooth. Leave for several minutes before rinsing with warm salt water.

Peanut butter contains a substance called resveratrol, a natural antibiotic and antioxidant, it can also be used on its own as a toothache remedy but it’s much less potent and less effective than garlic. Mixing peanut butter with garlic disguises the taste making it more palatable.

3: Garlic Clove Halves
Recommended for severe tooth pain, inflammation and abscess pain relief. Cut a garlic clove in half, place the cut side of each ‘half clove’ against the tooth/gum area on either side of the affected tooth and gently rub for between 7-10 minutes.

Once the pain begins to subside chew on the garlic clove halves with the problem tooth to release more of its ‘healing’ juice, the pain should disappear within 15-30 minutes.

Chewing on a garlic clove also strengthens the immunity of the weakened tooth, enabling it to heal the infection thereby reducing pain and inflammation. Finally, rinse your mouth out with warm salt water.

4: Garlic Mouthwash
A potent mixture than can offer quick relief. Crush 4 cloves of garlic into a standard size cup, add one level teaspoon of salt, fill with hot water and stir the mixture well. Wait for the mixture to cool down a little then take one small mouthful and thoroughly swish around the affected tooth and gum area. Repeat the process again as necessary.

5: Garlic Powder
If you don’t have any fresh garlic at hand then the next best alternative is to use garlic powder. This may sting a little so be prepared, dab a moistened Q-tip in the powder and apply directly to the affected area. Leave for several minutes until the pain has subsided before rinsing with warm salt water.

Fighting the infection from the inside

Garlic and Yoghurt
If there is a great deal of inflammation and swelling in the jaw area due to the abscess infection, then in addition to using the remedies above, ingesting garlic will help fight the infection from the inside and will bring the swelling down more rapidly.

Garlic is a wonderful natural antibiotic and is extremely effective as a broad spectrum antibiotic. And unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics, bacteria does not (or cannot) build up a resistance to garlic no matter how often you use it.

Directions: 3 to 4 cloves of raw garlic, crushed or very finely chopped and mixed with a serving of plain yoghurt.

IMPORTANT
Please remember that these remedies should only be used as a temporary measure to bring quick pain relief in emergencies and do not replace the need to see a dentist. There is no substitute for proper dental treatment that gets to the very heart of the problem and treats the root cause that is affecting your teeth.
